Design Tips for Custom Button Badges That Actually Get Noticed
Designing a great button badge is both an art and a science. You’ve only got a few centimetres of space to make a visual impact — so every design decision counts. Whether you’re creating a badge for branding, a school, or a political campaign, follow these tips to make your badge pop.

Keep the Message Short and Punchy
There’s no room for waffle on a badge. Stick to 2–5 words max. Use a bold, readable font. A simple slogan like “Be Kind,” “Support Local,” or “Ask Me How” is far more effective than a long sentence.
Use Contrast Wisely
Dark text on a light background (or vice versa) is your friend. Avoid placing red text on dark blue, or yellow on white — these are hard to read, especially at small sizes. If in doubt, test your design at actual badge size before committing.
Think Circular
Your design must fit and flow within a circle. Use curved text sparingly and place your main message in the centre. Avoid placing important details near the edge, as that area gets crimped in production.
Include a Logo (but Keep It Small)
Logos are great for brand identity, but don’t let them dominate the badge. If your badge is promotional, make sure the message is front and centre, and the logo is there for reinforcement.
Know Your Audience
Designs for school kids? Make it fun, colourful, and playful. For trade shows? Focus on brand and professionalism. For activism? Make it bold and direct. Your badge should speak the visual language your audience understands.
Use Templates
We offer design templates to help you align your artwork perfectly. These show the safe area, bleed area, and crimp zone so you know exactly where to place text and images.
A well-designed badge is more than a giveaway — it’s a statement. Make it count.
